“UCF Stands for Opportunity. As a result of funding received from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, University of Central Florida researchers are directly impacting the lives of Central Florida residents. To date, UCF has secured nearly $19 million in funding for 30 projects that include social services, glaucoma research, solar energy advancements, and more accurate computer analysis of brain tumors. For example, the Strengthening Communities in Central Florida Program, funded last year for $1 million, works directly with 80 previously-established non-profit organizations that serve communities with high rates of unemployment and poverty. The ARRA assistance helps these organizations increase their budgets, add staffing, volunteers, and clients, and improve their long-term sustainability.”
